Sustainability

Reducing the impact on the environment is core to our strategy. It’s very easy to say we are doing it, and in-fact it’s tough to be competitive these days if you’re not. We sometimes question ourselves whether creating another product is going to actually reduce our overall impact and each time we come back to the core of our mantra. People will buy gifts for each other and until every single gift that is given is ‘an experience’ then we want to support wrapping the present in a sustainable way. We also want people to tell a story as they are giving a gift and encourage them to pass on the bag with the next gift they give – creating both a memory and an experience at the same time.

Having ‘sustainability’ at the core of we do means that teach decision that is made is stress tested through a few key principles. You’ll notice we only have three sizes. Extra sizes means more to create, creating more means that there could be more that doesn’t sell. We don’t want to take the risk that something doesn’t sell that we then have to mark-down in a sale. We want people to only buy what they are going to use and not encourage them to buy something just because it is cheaper.

You’ll also notice that we don’t give options when purchasing our packs. We choose fabrics because they’re engaging and beautiful and then buy them when we can. We don’t commit to having something in stock because we don’t want to let down or consumers, and we don’t want to have inventory that isn’t sold. This both reduces the impact that we have day-to-day and means that we can operate in a leaner way, all benefits that we pass back to the customer – you.

Our Sustainability Plan

ONE – REMOVING WRAPPING PAPER FROM THE SYSTEM.

This is the cornerstone of our plan. Every time a bag is used it means that wrapping paper isn’t used. The more times a bag is used the larger the impact. The bag becomes part of the gift and when you

TWO – WE USE END OF LINE AND DEAD STOCK FABRICS

FGBC-Off-Cut-Sketch

We don’t guarantee any pattern/print in our collection. We use fabrics that have already been made and for some reason aren’t needed anymore. In the manufacturing industry these fabrics could be called ‘dead-stock’, ‘off-cuts’ or ‘end of line’ fabrics. Fabrics that already exist means means we aren’t creating anything extra and that we can utilise every piece in the supply chain.

THREE – NO SALES

We don’t have sales because we don’t need to get rid of excess stock. We buy dead-stock fabric, make the bags, sell them, and then we buy more fabric to make more bags. We don’t buy for seasons (except maybe Christmas!)

FOUR – SIMPLE PATTERNS

Simple patterns mean that we can use all the fabric in a roll. We’ve calculated our sizes to mean that there is no wastage once we’ve cut out the patterns for each size.
